Which is better?

Here's a question for you guys.

Do you think that its enough if a teacher has extreme love for their students? Have you ever experienced a teacher that maybe wasn't the best at things but they still impacted you greatly? And which would you rather have, a teacher that was uber smart or a teacher that was trying their hardest and cared about their students?

I think a teacher should care about their kids. I have had many teachers that have impacted my life, because they loved teaching but they also cared about each student in the class. I think I much rather have a teacher that is trying hard and cares about their students.

I agree, I would much rather have a teacher that I knew really cared about me although it is important to have content knowledge. I have had a few teachers that I just knew they really wanted the best for all of us. I've also had extremely smart teachers who were not very good at teaching and did not really care how we did in their class. I would much rather have a teacher that was genuinely concerned about their students.

I think that it is important to have a teach who cares about their students and gives their all. Just because someone may not a lot of things doesn't make them a teacher, even if they have the title it doesnt really make them a teacher in the eyes of a class. If a teacher is able to leave an impact on just one persons life it is worth it, because they could of saved them from going down the wrong path. I had a few teachers in high school that made being there better. If I ever need help they are more than willing to help and I think because they care so much they try harder to teach students all that they can and will go to more extremes than a teacher that just knows the material.

I think a caring teacher is a better one. Children know when you care and when you don't and it means somethings to them when they have someone who cares about them and their lives. When I was in high school I remember the teachers who cared more than the teachers who did not.

In a perfect I would choose a super smart teacher and a caring one. But, this isn't a perfect world and because of this, a caring teacher makes the student want to learn more. I feel that this builds on the childs self-esteem leading to a higher self-efficacy. If the student feels better about their self then they want to learn and achomplish more goals.

A teacher should definitely care for and show some passion toward teaching their students. I think there are too many teachers out there where teaching is just a job to them and put forth little effort for the student in the relem of caring for them. And more often than not, some students need a little more care and love in their lives then a lesson being taught to them that is empty of these things.

I think it would be better to have a teacher that really cared about their students. I have had teachers that weren't the sharpest tool in the shed but they related to me in a way that really made me respect them! I think that says more for a teacher than anything!

This is an interesting question...I think that there should be a balance of the two qualities! If i had to choose one over the other i personally would rather have a teacher who cared about students, however; i have also had some teachers who have cared about me as a student but failed to teach me anything!

This question is very interesting. I read a quote the other day that said "we remember the teacher who made the difference not the subject they taught." This really made me think. I can remember the classes that my favorite teachers taught but not all the content. I have had teachers who became great role models, now I find myself wanting to make a difference in a child's life like they have with mine.

I would prefer having a teacher that cared about the students. My teachers throughout school that have impacted me the most were the ones that wanted to talk to you and show that they cared. I love when teachers give their students hugs and like them to come and visit their room even when they are not in their class any longer. I really want to show my students that I care about them when I begin teaching. I want to show them that they can come to me if they need anything.
