Enjoyed the class tonight

I enjoyed the fast-paced style the instructor used tonight in class. Some of the topics she discussed were new to me. I didn't realize what an important role language, speech and communication play in assessing a student. I think I will leave this class with a much better understanding of what is required to be a 'good' teacher.

There is so much of the child’s day that would be influenced by the struggle in language.
• Assignments
a. May not understand instructions to even begin the task.
b. May not be able to read the assignment if it is written or may not be able to comprehend the assignment in oral instructions.
c. Too many tasks maybe asked of the child.
• Lunch Time
a. The child might eat alone because he/she can not communicate adequately. Other children may reject the child because of this.
• The child may not be able to express his or her needs
• The child may have to be pulled aside for special help in certain areas.
• Reading could be a struggle for the child. Not only the aspect of actually reading but even for the “itty bitties” that have the story time. The child could not be able to comprehend what the teacher is reading and may becoming a distraction to the class as a way of compensating.

There are so many other aspects that could be effected as well.
