Language and communication is at the heart of society. Learning how to use language to communicate wants and have needs met can be a complex task for many children. Our course will explore how language develops and the intricate challenges many children face who experience a variety of physical, emotional and cognitive difficulties.

Me too.. I think that is another reason that is causing me to freak
I do not want any one to FREAK or STRESS. I will do EVERYTHING I possible can to help you be successful at LEARNING the content in this class. The EFFORT required on a WEEKLY basis to learn the information that prepares you for class and ultimately prepares you for the final is a student responsibility - especially at the college level.
As I said in the comment to another post about the final (I would encourage students to at least SKIM through posts on the blog and look for ones about the FINAL since you are very concerned about it) that I am willing to allow students to help DESIGN THE FINAL.
I am NOT interested in tricking you or seeing ANY ONE fail the final. I want EVERYONE to succeed and I want EVERYONE to LEARN the content.
I am willing to do WHATEVER is necessary to help each and everyone in this class to LEARN and demonstrate that knowledge on the final. Are each of you prepared to do whatever it takes to learn the material, the basic components of language that are critical for understanding how to help children develop language, why children struggle with reading and learning and ultimately assist you to help children with special needs learn at high levels?
This may be a stupid question, but are we allowed to use our notes/book on the final?
No question is stupid. Yes, you will be able to use your notes and book on the final. Teaching is an OPEN resource profession. My classes will always MIRROR the profession. I am attempting to the best of my ability to model in this class what the "real world" will be like. You use your resources, synthesize the information and APPLY it!
My job is to come up with better questions so that it is IMPOSSIBLE to copy and paste information from any one source in such a way that it could answer the question.
The fact that we can use our notes and our books on the final is a hug relief. As well as a number of other people in the class I have another SED class on Tuesday mornings and I was really worried about getting both studied for. This helps because now I know that I can study but do not necessarily memorize everything that I need to know
Thanks
shewwww thank goodness, I must agree I was in shock that the final was changed from the last 3 chapters to comprehension. I feel I am learning the information, but there is always that little detail that you did not study as well and it will be on the final.
So, I must thank you for letting us continue to use our notes and books as with previous test :-)
I think that there is just so much information that we have learned this semester that it is hard (at least for me) when it is all combined together at the end. However, there was a time when I began college at another university and all my finals were comprehensive with no notes, no book, and no study guide. So, I am thankful that we at least have a chance to organize our thoughts and have resources in front of us if we forget something!
I think we can all breathe a little easier knowing we can use our notes and text on the final! whoo! Maybe we should make a class study guide where we all give imput on what we think would be important to know for the test!
I think Mrs. White has a point. If we are indeed to be teachers, we must take seriously the task of learning what tools are used to assess children and learn where their level of language is and what we can do to help them. Communication is so important.
Also, I think Kayla make a Freudian slip when she said it was a 'hug' relief. We could all use a hug. These tests are difficult, much less being comprehensive.
