Monday night class with Jenna

I thought Jenna gave some really good positive information about the implant. In most of my classes dealing with deaf culture, all the opinions given from the deaf community were very negative. It was usually always hearing parents who were promoting the cochlear implant. I'm glad I finally got to receive a different side to the story.

Before we watched that movie a couple weeks back, I had never heard of the cochlear implant. It was never needed for me or anyone I knew, so I just wasn't aware there was such a thing.

I really enjoyed having Jenna in class last week. I was quite surprised at how well the implant worked, as she was able to communicate with us without an ASL translation. She made an excellent point by the fact that she wasn't trying to be hearing, she was just trying to be successful in life and communicate with everyone.

I really enjoyed having Jenna in class also I think that it gives us a better feel for what is going on and what some of the things that my effect our students. Jenna was very funny in some of the things that she said. I feel that it is very important for people to have a great sense of humor. It makes everything easier. I wish her the best I think that her hoping to be successful in life is going to happen for her. Thanks for coming to our class.

I had heard of the cochlear implants, but I had never met anyone with an implant. I feel it is very informative to have someone in our class with personal experiences.
You can tell that she is a very strong person and will succeed in life.
I just wanted to say thanks for letting the class have the opportunity to speak personally with someone because the insight is much greater when personally experienced.

I really enjoyed having Jenna in class too. In another class I took previously we had a deaf student come to see us (he did not use his voice, and was totally against cochlear implants). However, I remember he said that he was not against people having them that it was just a personal choice. I thought it was very interesting to find out there was so much controversy cochlear implants. I could totally see Jenna's point when she said she wanted to be able to have all the resources she could in order to get the best education possible. I thought she was great!

I agree that I enjoyed getting to meet Jenna. It is always nice to get understanding of how people who live each day withy the device really feel about it. I enjoy meeting people in real-live rather that having only book examples or even video clip examples to go off of. Meeting the person actually makes it seem real.
