My friends mother who is a teacher called me today and asked me if i had learned any new information or teaching methods for children with apraxia that i could pass on to her. She has taught children with apraxia before, but was just wondering if there was any new information out. I told her that i have not learned any new information, but i would ask around to find out if my teachers or classmates have read any new articles or heard any new information. If any one has any helpful information, or knows a good place to look for new teaching methods please let me know so i can pass it one! Thanks!

It's always tough knowing what people already know and are using. Some folks regularly search and use the web and are aware of the many websites and resources there. So, those could be "old" to her. Does she have those?

It's difficult to know what she means by new?

Is she aware of the various assistive adaptive tools or technology that is available that students who do not speak can use?

We will do a whole chapter on this. It can be "low technology" such as the Picture Exchange System or various complex visual tools to communicate or it can be computerized resources. All of these are used within instruction as well as personal communication devices.

Last semester we took a "field trip" and had class at the Bluegrass Technology Center in Lexington and were able to see first hand many of these devices. It's not possible for us to do that this semester but may be possible to have several such devices in class that night.
